About

Format & Background:

The Glam Gizmo is a serialised audio drama series released via podcast feed.

It's intended purpose is to fill the void in the Australian science fiction market, while also leaning into domestic fantasy with hints of absurdist, supernatural and horror.

The series features a range of voices from emerging actors in the Australian scene to guest appearances from IPs such as Doctor Who.

The Glam Gizmo was created by Tom Denham and first saw life back in 2020 as apart of SYN Media's podcast network and has been an indie production since 2022.

Story:

The story of The Glam Gizmo begins in Melbourne, Australia with a recluse musician named Oliver Keppell, who throws his career aside to invest in a scientific research company who are developing a device called the Keppell Machine.

The Keppell Machine (named after Oliver Keppell and later known as the Probability Engine) has the ability to open rifts from one dimension to another to allow universal travel.

Two months after the project’s unveiling, the machine disappeared and was never seen again, and with it, the disappearance of Oliver Keppell followed.

The conspiracy of the decade was then labeled “the glam gizmo”.

Our first hapless hero, Max, learns from the eccentric Professor Paradox (at this time donned ‘Tom Denham’ as a cover story) about the device and how its capabilities have been extruded to beyond what it can withstand, and how it has fallen into the wrong hands.

Max decides to investigate, and in his search meets Lucy, a part-time blogger and helper of the Professor who has enthusiastically thrown herself into the world of strangeness and obscurity.

Together, they defeat their first villain, Boltizor, who snatches humans off the streets and turns harvests them into taxidermy puppets to decorate the Saint Kilda Luna Park ghost train and double as the cast of a children’s afternoon television show.

When all seems grim and too late, the Professor enters and reveals his true self, and vows that Earth must be protected by future threats.

Max and Lucy plead allegiance to the Professor’s cause, and begin their trail of monster hunting.

As the cast extends with each of its new recruits including Violet the former ghost girl, Casper the scientist, Lily the arts student, Yodalin the food column journalist, Gibbons the reformed criminal bookworm and Lydia the interstitial dreamweaver, each of them use the Professor’s bookshop as their base of operations where they continue to fight monsters and evil from across the universe.

Tom Denham:

Tom Denham is the brains behind The Glam Gizmo from the story conception to every area of production.

Completing his radio and podcast studies at the Australian Film Television Radio School and being successful for the CRA Podcast Scholarship, he is the National Producer for The Night Shift on Triple M  produces The Glam Gizmo (also by night).

Tom's idea for the series was to create something fun, quirky and that tickled all the right hankerings for weird, macabre humor and hopes that it shows fiction podcast listeners the different flavours of Australian influence.
